This tutorial will show you how to configure and manage OpenDNS on Windows systems put you in control of your networks.
Getting started:
There are three basic steps that must be done to configure this, and they are:
- Register for a free account here
- Configure your DNS settings
- Download OpenDNS Updater
- Customize your account settings
When you’re done with step one, follow the tutorial below to configure your DNS settings in Windows.
Click Start –> and type ‘Network and Sharing Center’ in the search box, then click the program from the list.
Select ‘Manage network connections’ from the left menu.
Right-click ‘Local Area Connection’ and select Properties
Select Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4), then click Properties
Enter the below IP addresses in the Preferred/Alternative DNS server field and click OK to close out

After configuring your DNS settings, click here to download OpenDNS Updater for your system.
Click Install
Enter your OpenDNS account username/password and click Sign In.
Close out go configure your account settings.
Login to OpenDNS online and select the Settings tab, then select your network IP address from the drop-down and begin configuring your filter level.
Choose Custom settings and define your own settings
Select Security on the left menu and enable spyware/malware and spam protection. Besides serving as contents filter, OpenDNS can also protect your from spyware/malware and spam online.
After configuring, the next person that tries to go to a blocked website will get the below message.
